The Cooma contingent took the long drive to Moruya last Sunday, on a glorious, if sometimes slightly windy winter’s day.
Alpine Motor Group under 18s.
Cooma came out with all guns blazing in the under 18s and in the first set of six hard running centre, Matt Chelin, beat two opposition players to score out wide from the half way line.
The game started poorly for Cooma with poor handling and silly penalties being the order for most of the first half. Moruya scored a soft try from dummy half to lead 0-6 after a few minutes. Josh Steinke was trying hard and an ugly head high tackle on him stopped a promising raid.
The Stallions started strongly with some solid forward play, then quick hands from Zach Smith to Karlos Filiga and out to a flying Damien Hayden. However the Moruya defence bundled Damien into touch about a metre out. Some more determined Cooma attacks again resulted in no points, as the Moruya defence was up to the task.
