The nets are officially opened by Cr Rogan Corbett, previous and current Rotary Presidents John King and Ash Constance, Monaro Cricket President Mark Williams, St Pat’s students and PE Teacher Tim Lawley.
The ribbon was finally cut for the long-awaited official opening of the new Nijong oval cricket nets last Thursday 14 November.
Having been under construction since December 2018, the cricket nets first came about thanks to a community grant from the Boco Rock Wind Farm. The application for the grant was made by the Cooma Rotary Club.
Present for the unveiling was Monaro District Cricket Association President Mark Williams, Councillor Rogan Corbett, Rotarian Kevin Dunne, previous and present Rotary Club Presidents John King and Ashley Constance, St Patricks Parish School PE teacher Tim Lawley as well as cricketing students from St Pat’s.
The project was spearheaded by John King when he was president of the Cooma Rotary Club. When John was looking for a community works project, his son suggested the local cricket association were in need of the nets.
