Drakes Pride Junior Carnival

Junior bowlers from around the state gathered this week at Windang Bowling Club in the Illawarra to test their skills against many of the best young players from around the state.

Members of the Club Sapphire junior development squad were strongly represented with five players taking to the greens, including Berridale residents Jake and Kiahna Barnes.

Jake has been playing bowls since he was nine and Kiahna for the last 12 months and both loved the opportunity to test their skills against some of the best juniors in NSW as well as seeking selection for the Zone 7 team to play in the state junior championships a Warilla Bowling & Recreation Club later this month and the Zone 7-a-side team to play at Dubbo in August.

The competition’s first and third days were all about making new friends and socialising with other young stars, with three 90 minute pairs games played, each with different partners and opponents.

With the completion open to players under 18 and with some as young as eight-years-old all games were played in a great friendly spirit with some outstanding quality despite the windy conditions. Expect to see some of these players feature prominently into the future.
