Jindabyne Central School was represented by a talented team of female athletes who competed well at the recent Secondary Regional Athletics Carnival held at the AIS in Canberra on Friday August 2.
The JCS students Georgia Gardiner, Sophie Reid, Zara Gardiner, Tori Flanagan and Lilly Trudgett competed in 15 events between them across the day with all girls finishing in the top 10 of all events they entered, a fantastic achievement. Jemima Faint and Lilly Wallis were members of the Under 15-year-old 4 x 100m relay team that also included Lilly Trudgett and Tori Flanagan who competed and came fourth in their relay event.
The major results include Georgia finishing first in long jump and second in 200m dash. Georgia also came third in the 100m, sixth in high jump and fourth in shot put. Sophie finished second in discuss throw and Zara came second in triple jump. Zara also came fifth in long jump and eighth in shot put.
These results have earned the three girls a place in the State Athletics Championships to be held in Sydney next month. Other notable results include the dedicated Tori Flanagan who narrowly missed out on making State coming third in long jump and fifth in triple jump. Athletes must finish in the top two places of their event to progress to State. Lilly Trudgett came ninth in 100m and ninth in long jump.
