Jindabyne community set to celebrate Australia Day

Raising the flags along Lake Jindabyne is always a spectacular sight on Australia Day.

Australia Day is the day to reflect on what it means to be Australian, to celebrate contemporary Australia and to acknowledge our histor. But most of all it’s a day to celebrate all things we love about Australia.

Help celebrate Australia Day in Jindabyne on Sunday 26 January beginning at 9am at the Banjo Paterson Park. The Jindabyne Lions Club in collaboration with the Snowy Monaro Regional Council will be hosting the local Australia Day 2020 celebration.

Joining in on the celebration will be this year’s Australia Day Ambassador, Mary-Ruth Mendel a Speech Pathologist and Co-Founder of the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF).

Amongst many achievements, Mary-Ruth received the 2006 Best Community Project Award at the Ethical Investor’s sixth Australian Sustainability Awards for the design and delivery of her First Language Reading Course to Indigenous community members.

Also, a finalist in The Australian of the Year Awards 2008 – Local Hero Award NSW, and named Australia Day Ambassador each year from 2009.

While the NSW Government and Australia Day Council of NSW recognise that it’s been an incredibly difficult time for so many communities across NSW, the loss and destruction is devastating and they stand in solidarity with those affected.
